The Bittersweet of Sorrow

The bittersweet of sorrow retreating from the light
Loses any trace of sweetness abandoning the fight
No effort to remember, no hope to look ahead
No comfort for the moment, no faith in living words is left
here among the dead
Trading pain for numbness will not make it go away
No matter what you tell yourself, you know it’s here to stay
In this place of no more dying - because everything has died
Not a living heart still trying to recall the sweetness
of better days and times
Dry and lifeless like a tinderbox hiding in the dark
Almost as if it’s waiting for a single well-placed spark
Hope among the hopeless comes from without, placed tenderly within
Life comes only from the living, spoken first into existence
when repeated - life begins again
