Starry Skies and Teary Eyes

The early morning darkness
Hours before the dawn
Tears of joy I can’t explain
Or imagine ever being gone
They could soon be gone forever
If I understand this right
When every tear is wiped away
Where there is no more night
It’s hard to think that I won’t miss them
And the comfort they provide
Like a favorite childhood blanket
A place to be alone and hide
What will soon be over
So much I’ll be glad is finally gone
But starry skies and teary eyes
Seem destined to go on
It’s not that I am doubting
Honestly, I just don’t understand
These tears appear when you draw me near
And gently touch me with your hand
The wonder of all that’s waiting
For those of us who love the Lord
Can’t be anticipated or imagined
Yet with glorious robes of righteousness . . .
. . . we’re forever fore-adorned
When I look at your heavens, the work of your
fingers, what is man that you are mindful of
him, or the son of man that you care for him?
(Psalm 8:3-4)
