Old Friends

I knew you back when we both thought
The fire was really burning
After all it only took a spark
And there was so much we were learning
Now we wonder who's still faithful
Who's become discouraged or just not so sure
Which fertile hearts received the seed
Which ones have not endured
Some have turned away and left
Their childlike faith abandoned
While others, impatient with the pace of grace
Have grown cold and heavy handed
But in-between these two extremes
There is such a joy in knowing
The path of God's you started on
Still leads you where you're going
So when we meet face to face
Or share our thoughts in cyberspace
Receive old friends with love and grace
It's the nature of our calling
"Let your speech always be gracious,
seasoned with salt, so that you may
know how you ought to answer each person."
Colossians 4:6
