As I Live and Breathe

When You arrived before my eyes
Were able to behold You
You spoke to me and it was faith
That heard You speak and told You
I’m sorry for the compromise, the neutral ground
Where I thought I could make a living
It hadn’t yet occurred to me, that I was the enemy
You were loving and forgiving
The lifeless reign of my domain
Unwilling to surrender
A fight to the death when my next breath
Sealed my faith as your inspired prisoner
You call me friend and I understand
You never use your words to flatter
But I still find that there are times
It’s not quite clear to me what matters
I aim to please - either You or me
Not always in that order
You raise me higher to learn what You require
Love You first and love my brother
Each new day arrives to say
It’s only time that’s passing
As heaven waits with opened gates
Welcoming the living to the everlasting
“For in him we live and move and have our being.”
(Acts 17:28)
