The Evil in Me
The evil in me makes me turn to see The faults of those who’ve hurt and disappointed me And turn down the offer of a healing, lifting, erasing touch
That would restore my life if I’d only let it
Resentment festers like a hidden sore Reaching deeper, growing darker with the certainty of a permanent marker
As I faithfully recite my vow Never to forget it
Whatever it is Or was Is never as sinister As what I let it become
(mjh 5/18/17)
". . . see to it that no 'root of bitterness' springs up and causes trouble . . ."
Hebrews 12:15
