Update from the Search Committee
(an excerpt from a recent interview)
Committee Chair: What is your favorite hymn and why?
Candidate 45: “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus,” because this hymn, more than
any other, describes my call to the pulpit.
Committee Chair: Because of a call to evangelism and commitment to
persevere for the gospel at any cost in your preaching?
Candidate 45: Maybe . . . I suppose . . . but I don’t really preach. It’s more “stand-up . . .
for Jesus.” Like Billy Joel says in "Only the Good Die Young," I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. I want to bring in the lost sheep laughing all the way to heaven. There’s no crying in evangelism - or was that in baseball?
Committee Chair: OK. I think we’re ready for Candidate 46.
Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! (1 Corinthians 9:16)
